The Europan Day

Europandagen startar på eftermiddagen med ett seminarium om hur Europan under sina 20 år i Sverige har bidragit till diskussionen om och utformandet av den svenska staden. Deltar gör Eyvind Bergström från BRA, Anders Eloff från QPG, Ann-Catrin Kärnä från Göteborgs stad, Britt Olofsdotter-Jönsson från Formas, Eva-Maria Persson från Nacka, Maria Pettersson som vann E9, Per-Fredrik von Platen från Landskrona, Anders Wilhelmson från KTH samt Peder Alton som är journalist. Dagen startar 14.00 på KTH Arkitekturskolan, Östermalmsgatan 26, torsdagen den 14 April. Den fortsatta kvällen beskrivs i följande post.

The Europan Day starts in the afternoon with a seminar concerning how Europan during its 20 years in Sweden has contributed to the discussion about and design of the Swedish city. Participants are Eyvind Bergström from BRA, Anders Eloff from QPG, Ann-Catrin Kärnä from the city of Gothenburg, Britt Olofsdotter-Jönsson from Formas, Eva-Maria Persson from the municipality of Nacka, Maria Pettersson who won E9, Per-Fredrik von Platen from the municipality of Landskrona, Anders Wilhelmson from the Royal Institute of Technology and Peder Alton who is a journalist. The day starts 14.00 at KTH School of Architecture, Östermalmsgatan 26, thursday the 14th of April. The evening programme is described in the following post.

Implementations meeting

Möte i Bilbao mellan de nationella Europansekretariaten där vi går igenom implementeringar i Europanomgångarna 6 till 10, för att kunna identifiera olika former av processer och se hur man bäst kan stödja potentiella genomföranden av projekten. Meeting in Bilbao between the national Europan secretariats where we go through implementations in the Europan sessions 6 to 10, in order to identify different forms of processes and see how one can best supprort potential realizations of the projects. Competition launch

Europan 11 har startat! Sverige deltar med Malmö, Norrköping, Simrihamn och Nynäshamn i årets omgång. På Europan Europes hemsida finns all information, och man kan ladda ner kortfattade tävlingsprogram för alla tomter. Vid registrering får man tillgång till det kompletta tävlingsmaterialet för den valda tomten.

Europan 11 is launched! Sweden is participating with Malmö, Norrköping, Simrihamn och Nynäshamn in this years session. The homepage of Europan Europe contains all the information, and one may download the synthetic site files for all the sites. After registration, the complete competition material may be accessed for the chosen site.

Integrating the suburban landscape

Den fjärde och sista svenska tävlingstomten ligger i Norrköpings kommun. Tomten ligger mellan det karaktärsfulla 60-talsområdet Vilbergen och naturreservatet Vrinneviskogen. Tomten är idag starkt påverkad av den överdimensionerade leden Gamla Övägen. Uppgiften är att skapa ett område som kan omformulera vägens betydelse, och skapa en god boendemiljö och genomsläpplighet av naturen. Se det korta tävlingsprogrammet.

The fourth and last Swedish competition site is situated in the municipality of Norrköping. The site is located between the distinct 1960s area Vilbergen and the nature reserve Vrinneviskogen. The site is today strongly affected by the over-dimensioned thoroughfare Gamla Övägen. The task is to create a neighbourhood that can reformulate the importance of the road, and create a good living environment and permeability of nature. See the synthetic competition programme.

The social city

Den tredje svenska tävlingstomten ligger i området Holma i Malmö. Holma är ett 60-talsområde som låg i stadens utkant innan utbyggnaden av Hyllie tog fart. Tävlingsuppgiften består av att skapa ett nutida tillägg till Holma som dels kan försörja hela området socialt, men också bidra till att skapa en kontinuitet i stadsrummet. The third Swedish competition site is situated at Holma in Malmö. Holma is a suburb from the 1960s that was in the periphery of the city until the development of nearby Hyllie took off. The competition task is to create a contemporary addition to Holma that can feed the whole area socially, but also contribute to a continuity of urban space. See the synthetic competition programme.

Forum of Sites Istanbul

Den 4 till 5 December sker en konferens i Istanbul kallat Forum of Sites. Här träffas företrädare för olika tävlingstomter och medarbetare i Europan, för att jämföra de olika tävlingsprogrammen med varandra, genom diskussioner i ett antal temagrupper. Gemensamma debatter hålls om den Europeiska stadens utveckling.

The 4th and 5th of December, a conference in Istanbul is held called the Forum of Sites. Representatives from different competition sites and Europan staff meet, to compare the different competition programmes with each other within different thematic groups. There are also public debates about the development of the European city.

Central park

Den andra svenska tävlingstomten ligger i Nynäshamn. Tomten är en dåligt utnyttjad idrottsplats som ligger i en sänka mellan centrala Nynäshamn och området Estö. Tomten ska planeras så att de närliggande områdena knyts ihop till en helhet. Eftersom platsen hotas av översvämning kan ingen permanentbebyggelse skapas. Därför ska uppgiften lösas genom att skapa ett varierat aktivitetsområde. Se det korta tävlingsprogrammet.

The second Swedish competition site is located in the town of Nynäshamn. The site is a badly used sports ground on low altitude between central Nynäshamn and the Estö estate. The site should be planned tying the nearby areas together to a whole. Since the place is threatened by flooding, no permanent buildings may be erected. So the task should be solved by creating a varied activity area. See the synthetic competition programme.

Sea town extension

Den första Svenska tävlingstomten är klar, och den ligger i Simrishamns kommun. Tomten ligger i direkt anslutning till den gamla stadskärnan, och består ett tidigare sjukhusområde och en kustremsa mot Östersjön. Uppgiften är att planera för ett stadsområde med nutida arkitektur som samtidigt anknyter till traditionen av den befintliga staden, samt att utveckla ett rekreationsområde längs kustremsan. The first Swedish competition site is set, situated in the municipality of Simrishamn. The site is in direct contact with the old town centre, and consists of a previous hospital area and a coastal strip towards the Baltic Sea. The task is to plan for an urban area with contemporary architecture but which connects to the tradition of the present town, and also to develop a recreational area along the coastal strip. Thomas Sieverts

Thomas Sieverts är vald till ny president för Europan Europa. Han är arkitekt, stadsplanerare och författare till boken Zwischenstadt, en bok som beskriver utvecklingen av den kompakta europeiska staden och dess decentralisering samt hur denna nya typ av stadsform sprider sig över världen. Han har bland annat varit vetenskaplig direktör för International Building Exhibition (IBA) Emscher Park.

Thomas Sieverts is elected new president of Europan Europe. He is an architect and urban planner and the author of Zwischenstadt, a book which addresses the decentralization of the compact historical European city and examines how this new form of urbanity has spread across the world. He has served as Scientific Director for the International Building Exhibition (IBA) Emscher Park.

Forum of Results in Neuchâtel

Mellan den 27:e och 29:e maj så ordnar Europan ett Forum. Det kommer att innehålla en priscermoni för Europan 10, seminarium rörande de prisbelönta förslagen, guidade turer, debatter, presentationer och givetvis en stor avslutningsfest.

The Forum will be held in Neuchâtel from 27 to 29 May. It will include the Europan 10 award ceremony, working groups on the prize-winning projects, guided tours, debates and of course a big ending party.

The result book is finished

Resultatboken som presenterar de fyra svenska tomterna är nu klar. Den innehåller porträtt av de vinnande förslagen och arkitekterna, beskrivning av de deltagande tomterna och en redogörelse för de olika moment som ingår i en Europanomgång. Även denna gång så står Fellow Designers för formgivningen.

The Result book that presents the four Swedish sites is finished. It contains portraits of the winning proposals and teams, a description of the participating sites and an account of the different activities that takes place during a Europan session. Once again the graphic design is created by Fellow Designers.

Implementation processes

Under våren har de tävlande fått möjlighet att utveckla sina förslag och ta de första stegen mot en implementering. I Kisa ligger fokus på att lösa frågan om etapper och program. I Mora pågår för närvarande ett arbete med att utreda det Rosa huset, en befintlig byggnad som skall fungera som ungdomsgård. I Lerum har vinnarna tagit fram ett planprogram som skall ligga till grund för höstens detaljplanearbete. I Östhammar pågår arbete med att hitta en operatör för hotellverksamheten. Den 8:e april ordnade Europan Sverige en liten konferens, med fokus på hur implementeringsprocessen kunde utvecklas. Konferensen leddes av Christer Larsson, Stadsbyggnadsdirektör i Malmö.

During the spring, the competitors have had the opportunity to develop thier proposals and take the first steps towards an implementation process. In Kisa the current focus is to solve the issue of phases of development as well as programatic questions. In Mora a study on how to treat the pink house, a existing building that will be converted to a youth house. In Lerum, the winners have developed a written program to ensure the urban qualities before starting with the detail plan in the fall. Östhammar is working with finding the right organization for running the hotel. On the 8th of April, Europan Sweden hosted a small conference, focusing on how the implementation processes could be managed led by Christer Larsson, the Director of City Planning at the city of Malmö.
